EROICA

"L'Eroica," held every first Sunday in October in Gaiole in Chianti, is a unique bicycle race that combines tradition, vintage and the breathtaking landscapes of Tuscany. Created in 1997 with the intention of preserving the region's dirt roads and promoting a sustainable lifestyle, it has now become an internationally renowned event, celebrated for its connection to the land and its romantic atmosphere.

The race takes place along five separate routes, each with its own characteristic and beauty:

  • Chianti Valley Walk - 46 km: Passes through the Chianti Classico vineyards and typical Tuscan countryside, offering spectacular views of Siena.
  • Black Rooster Short Course - 81 km: A route of about four hours enriched with stops to taste local delicacies such as ribollita and Chianti Classico.
  • Crete Senesi Medium Route - 135 km: Accessible to many cyclists, but with longer travel times, it offers a chance to admire the village of Buonconvento, among the most picturesque in Italy.
  • Lenght - 209 km: The most authentic experience of L'Eroica, with a duration of at least 15 hours and over 3700 meters of elevation gain. It traverses breathtaking landscapes, including an atmospheric overnight stop at Brolio Castle.
  • Cento Val d'Arbia Route - 106 km: A new route through the fascinating Crete Senesi.

To participate, you must register, but the permanent route can be taken at any time of the year, allowing anyone to explore the beauty of Tuscany by bicycle. Whether you're an experienced cyclist looking for a challenge or simply a cycling enthusiast, L'Eroica offers an unforgettable experience in one of Italy's most fascinating places.
